<br />
<br />
<br />
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...... I was 10.<br />
<br />
My family got a devotional where we watched movies and talked about it in the biblical sense. The best part for me is that they were not "Christian" movies. I had quite the attitude back then, I was going to a private Christian school and thought I had seen every one a hundred times :)<br />
<br />
The truth is you can find a lot of biblical truth in "secular" movies. I thought I would share some simple devotionals written by me to do with your family revolving around some popular children's movies or TV shows. If at all possible I will try and use ones that are available on Netflix and Amazon Prime. If a movie is rated PG or higher I will include a review so parents can judge for themselves if they want to watch it.<br />
<br />
All of the list are entitled Family Movie Devotionals. You can also look for the tag Family Movie Devotionals.<br />

<br />
Disclaimer: I am not a pastor or a theologian, but I love pondering about finer points of a movie.<br />
<br />
I also don't own any of the rights to the movies. Please follow the links to legally watch them with your family!<br />

<br />
I don't even know where to begin! In the time I've been away I've been to Europe twice, celebrated 6 years of marriage (soon to be 7!), had a baby (who is now a preschooler!), and moved 4 states away!<br />
<br />
<br />
You might also notice that I deleted a bunch of posts. I felt they no longer reflected who I was. I know it is nice to look back and see growth (which is why I kept the craft posts up), but it was time to leave my own attitude in the past. <br />
<br />
What is next for the blog? Who knows?! I do know it will be filled with crafts, faith, and fun!<br />
<br />
See you soon dear friend,<br />

Glazed Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal BreadSo I was browsing through pinterest yesterday and I found a friend had posted the recipe for a Glazed Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Bread. I looked at the recipe and saw that it was low in flour and decided to try it. To find the original recipe you can click on the link <a href="http://lovelylittlekitchen.com/glazed-apple-cinnamon-oatmeal-bread/" target="_blank">here.</a><br />
<span style="color: #0000ee;"><u><br /></u></span><a href="http://lovelylittlekitchen.com/glazed-apple-cinnamon-oatmeal-bread/" target="_blank"><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cmpyZ_woG60/VgFwj2zzpvI/AAAAAAAAC84/U22vIzfnJ74/s1600/Glazed-Apple-Cinnamon-Oatmeal-Bread-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cmpyZ_woG60/VgFwj2zzpvI/AAAAAAAAC84/U22vIzfnJ74/s320/Glazed-Apple-Cinnamon-Oatmeal-Bread-3.jpg" width="213" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Picture from lovelylittlekitchen.com</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</a><br />Well I made it and this is how it turned out:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VPU8dLKkTQ0/VgHRvFGOnEI/AAAAAAAAC9w/VR5YPInOjyY/s1600/IMG_9510.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VPU8dLKkTQ0/VgHRvFGOnEI/AAAAAAAAC9w/VR5YPInOjyY/s320/IMG_9510.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
Sadly most of it ended up in the garbage. There was such a strong taste of vegetable oil that it completely ruined the rest of the ingredients. It want to put out there that my vegetable oil was old, so that may have been part of the problem, but it also lacked a certain sweetness. I decided that this was definitely a fixable recipe, so in an attempt to fix it (and still remain partially healthy) I changed the vegetable oil to coconut oil and added honey:<br />

Mix all of the Dry mixture ingredients together and let them rest. Pre-heat oven to 350. Then mix all of the wet ingredients. Slowly combine wet ingredients in the dry mixture. Mix until both are properly combined. Do not over mix. Put in a greased bread pan and bake for approx 45 mins. Take out and cool. </div>

I liked my version so much better. Will I make it again? Probably not. It was super moist and filling, but it was not sweet enough for my tastes. However, this recipe would be good if you think banana bread is too sweet.</div>

"That's awesome!" I thought, so I immediately went on pinterest and found a bazillion different recipes for them. I picked one that I had all of the ingredients for and here are my results:<br />
<br />
I took the recipe from <a href="http://www.eatmedelicious.com/2007/12/snickerdoodle-muffins.html" target="_blank">here.</a><br />
<br />
<div style="color: #7f7f7f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><em>2 sticks unsalted butter</em><br /><em>1 cup sugar</em><br /><em>2 tsp vanilla</em><br /><em>2 eggs</em><br /><em>3/4 tsp baking soda</em><br /><em>3/4 tsp baking powder</em><br /><em>3/4 tsp cream of tartar</em><br /><em>3/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg</em><br /><em>1 1/4 cup sour cream</em><br /><em>2 1/4 cups all purpose flour</em></span></div>
<div style="color: #7f7f7f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">
<em style="background-color: white;">1/2 cup sugar and 1 TBSP cinnamon mixed together for rolling*</em></div>
<div style="color: #7f7f7f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">
<em style="background-color: white;">1.Cream the butter and sugar until soft about 3 to 5 minutes. Add in the vanilla. Add in the eggs one at a time and mix until each is incorporated.</em></div>
<div style="color: #7f7f7f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">
<em style="background-color: white;">2.In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cream of tartar and nutmeg.</em></div>
<div style="color: #7f7f7f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">
<em style="background-color: white;">3.Add the flour mixture and the sour cream alternately to the egg-butter mixture in the additions. Start with the flour and end with the flour. Scrape the bowl occasionally.</em></div>
<div style="color: #7f7f7f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">
<em style="background-color: white;">4. Using an ice cream scoop, scoop out muffin batter one at a time and drop into a shallow bowl filled with the cinnamon sugar mixture. Roll the muffin around in the mixture until it is covered completely in cinnamon sugar. Place muffin into muffin tin. Depending on the size of your tins, you should get about 12 to 14 muffins. Bake them for approx. 20-22 minutes in a 350F oven or until they are golden brown.</em></div>
<div style="color: #7f7f7f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">
<em style="background-color: white;"><br /></em></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">
<span style="background-color: white;">I mixed everything as described above and here is what it looked like in my mixer:</span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L8cZQnR2-EQ/VPX1CAPHqqI/AAAAAAAACz0/YI11rM7H8WI/s1600/IMG_8177.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-L8cZQnR2-EQ/VPX1CAPHqqI/AAAAAAAACz0/YI11rM7H8WI/s1600/IMG_8177.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
From there I put the batter in the muffin cups (I didn't roll in cinnamon-sugar like the recipe suggested).</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VHlw0fxtCKg/VPX1DR2DxoI/AAAAAAAACz8/hK9xVFz7CiQ/s1600/IMG_8178.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VHlw0fxtCKg/VPX1DR2DxoI/AAAAAAAACz8/hK9xVFz7CiQ/s1600/IMG_8178.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Instead I sprinkled it cinnamon-sugar on top!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WDE_bPmfKlc/VPX1ExyUvMI/AAAAAAAAC0E/uTEwdYBhp3c/s1600/IMG_8181.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WDE_bPmfKlc/VPX1ExyUvMI/AAAAAAAAC0E/uTEwdYBhp3c/s1600/IMG_8181.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Put it in the oven at 350 degrees F. In my oven it took 27 mins of baking.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BKO5XRbMfF0/VPX1GcBugHI/AAAAAAAAC0M/pR2FZ0zUQkQ/s1600/IMG_8183.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BKO5XRbMfF0/VPX1GcBugHI/AAAAAAAAC0M/pR2FZ0zUQkQ/s1600/IMG_8183.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The results are delicious!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The paint is still drying but this is what it looks like! I am so thrilled!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I only painted the two walls and the cabinets, but I am in love with this colour!!!! The best part was I only paid $2.94 for the paint! It is Behr Island Oasis</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I found it <a href="http://www.maybematilda.com/2014/02/granny-stripe-baby-blanket-tutorial.html#.U8kzC_ldXEd">here.</a> It is a simple granny square stripped blanket so the work is going very fast!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WK45m7C9_i8/U8k0bT7PuiI/AAAAAAAACfw/r-5yTFX2rJk/s1600/IMG_0721%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WK45m7C9_i8/U8k0bT7PuiI/AAAAAAAACfw/r-5yTFX2rJk/s1600/IMG_0721%5B1%5D.JPG" height="213" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I love these colours. I just wish I had a sky blue to add to it!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I am excited to have the opportunity to make a larger scale project and it works great since I have been watching a lot of Stargate SG-1 lately and have some sit time on my hands. Is it weird that I always get in a crafty mood when I am watching Sci-Fi? I don't have anyone in mind yet to give this blanket to, but am excited to see what will come of it. I like the darker colours that I am working with. Vana's Choice yarn is used for this project as I am trying to get rid of all the excess yarn laying around.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am going to try and finish this today. I will post pictures later as I progress.</div>

<br />
Ever get tired of white elephant secret Santa? This is a great way to disperse the great wealth of presents.<br />
<br />
Every on starts with their original gift on their lap. Then you get a hat or a bag with different instructions and pass them around.<br />
<br />
Some examples of this is to pass your presents to the left. Trade with the youngest. Trade with the person with the longest hair. Trade with the person who is more likely to be in a scifi movie. Trade with the person who is most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse. The list goes on and on! Be creative!<br />

Sorry it is finals week and my anniversary.<br />
<br />
Today I am going to take a break from DIYing to talk about another ways to save for Christmas. Are you ready? Here it comes!<br />
<br />
Buy your decorations at a thrift store like Goodwill, or Savers! I found a ton of cute stuff there this year! Lots of wall hanging stuff.<br />

I hope this helps! <br />
Today we are staying in the world of felt--it is incredibly inexpensive and has so many uses.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<b>Felt Mitten Ornaments:</b><br />
<br />
<b>What you need:</b><br />
Felt Scraps<br />
Embroidery thread<br />
Needle<br />
Scissors<br />
<br />
<b>Cut out two small mitten shapes from felt.</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It was what started my longish journey into dance. Today we are going to be making a Sugar Plum Fairy mobile for your dining room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ipuCCWxop28/UqEGq51eqzI/AAAAAAAAAaE/zAjAigeJccQ/s1600/IMG_9530%255B1%255D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ipuCCWxop28/UqEGq51eqzI/AAAAAAAAAaE/zAjAigeJccQ/s320/IMG_9530%255B1%255D.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<b>Materials:</b><br />
Paper<br />
Printer<br />
Scissors<br />
String<br />
Sewi<br />
ng Needle<br />
<br />
<b>First go into Microsoft Word and print out this clip art. </b>Make it as large as possible to fit on one page. (Search Ballerina)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5qIxkdYPbI8/UqEDQxxM6rI/AAAAAAAAAZc/ubPRVDqc-d0/s1600/IMG_9515%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5qIxkdYPbI8/UqEDQxxM6rI/AAAAAAAAAZc/ubPRVDqc-d0/s320/IMG_9515%5B1%5D.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>

<br />
<b> Cut it out.</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
You don't need to be concerned about the bottom of the Tutu. You'll see why later.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It should look like this:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wBWzPcEoxCM/UqED3KTUt0I/AAAAAAAAAZk/EFK9Ekw0sEU/s1600/IMG_9517%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wBWzPcEoxCM/UqED3KTUt0I/AAAAAAAAAZk/EFK9Ekw0sEU/s320/IMG_9517%5B1%5D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Trace the template you just cut out.</b></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

I am excited to share with you a new project! Last year at a craft show I came across the coziest mittens. The only problem is that they were $20 a pair. I am going to show you how you can make a pair for less than $5.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vHNkoZ41Enc/UqDOqIc_tkI/AAAAAAAAAV0/uQRdeQ3-5uo/s1600/IMG_9501%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vHNkoZ41Enc/UqDOqIc_tkI/AAAAAAAAAV0/uQRdeQ3-5uo/s400/IMG_9501%5B1%5D.JPG" width="266" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Finished Product Back and Front</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<b>What you need:</b><br />
Sewing Machine<br />
Old Sweater--or two<br />
Printer<br />
Black Thread<br />
Scissors<br />
Fleece<br />
<br />
<b>First you are going to need to print out the pattern here:</b><br />
<br />
Front: <a href="http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2010/12/mittenfront_copy.pdf">http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2010/12/mittenfront_copy.pdf</a><br />
<br />
Back: <a href="http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2010/12/mitten_palms_copy.pdf">http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/lifehacker/2010/12/mitten_palms_copy.pdf</a><br />
<br />
<i>*when cutting out the correct the pattern you are going to want to use size large. If you have small hands--not just women's hands but SMALL hands--then use size medium. Children ages 8-12 can use the small.*</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
<b>Cut out Pieces of Sweater:</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
When cutting it out make sure you cut the pattern so that you have a left and a right mitten. It avoid this make sure to flip the pattern when you cut the second piece. I wanted a two-tone mitten so I used one sweater for the front and the other for the back.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ghNYiDyew70/UqDP3dTn-KI/AAAAAAAAAWs/0ncV0aVL9B0/s1600/IMG_9489%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ghNYiDyew70/UqDP3dTn-KI/AAAAAAAAAWs/0ncV0aVL9B0/s320/IMG_9489%5B1%5D.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
Make sure to cut off the cuff of the sweater by 3-4 inches on each arm. This will serve as the cuffs for your mittens.<br />
<br />
<b>Sew the Back Pieces Together:</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
It is easier to sew the back together first. Sew the back of the fleece and sweater. I used black thread.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Uw_ZOyZ0qLo/UqDO8xNiDTI/AAAAAAAAAWE/6azE2PQ0UQk/s1600/IMG_9493%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Uw_ZOyZ0qLo/UqDO8xNiDTI/AAAAAAAAAWE/6azE2PQ0UQk/s320/IMG_9493%5B1%5D.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<b>Sew the Front On:</b><br />
I found that since the sweaters had two different tensions there was a little I had to trim after sewing them together.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Trim the excess</td></tr>
</tbody></table>

Not in our house! It is my favourite holiday and I really go all out! In an effort to help others enjoy Christmas as much as I am I am going to post an inexpensive DIY December 2-25--I'll include two projects for December 2.<br />
<br />
December 1 DIY:<br />
<br />
Since I got married last year the size of my family increased more than five times of my "original family." Since I enjoy knitting and crocheting so much I make many of my presents. I love dish clothes, they are simple and all you need to know how to do is cast on, knit, and cast off. It usually takes me about 30 mins to make one. I suggest giving these in packs of 4 or 8. My sister, Sarah, introduced them to me and they are the BEST you will ever have so make sure to make some for yourself!<br />
<br />
Here is a link to a wonderful YouTube video on how to make them:<br />
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6t1upQeNAE">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6t1upQeNAE</a><br />
<br />
This is what a finished product looks like:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AwQpRcX0CKU/UpzZ4hB3I6I/AAAAAAAAAVc/RWjmgMipGLs/s1600/IMG_20131202_125539_103.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AwQpRcX0CKU/UpzZ4hB3I6I/AAAAAAAAAVc/RWjmgMipGLs/s320/IMG_20131202_125539_103.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
December 2 DIY:<br />
<br />
As the party season quickly approaches often we are asked to bring a snack, or dessert. I love to bring peanut butter fudge as it is simple to make and absolutely delicious! Here is the recipe:<br />
<br />
Ingredients:<br />
<br />
1/2 cup butter(1 stick)<br />
1 1/2 cups peanut butter<br />
1- 16 oz package of confectioners sugar<br />
<br />
1. Set a burner on your stove to med-low heat. Place the butter in a large pot and melt the butter on the stove stirring frequently to prevent burning.<br />
<br />
2. When the butter is completely melted add the peanut butter and turn off the stove.<br />
<br />
3. When the butter and the peanut butter are completely mixed together add 2 cups of the sugar and then add the remaining sugar 1 cup at a time till the fudge is stiff like cookie dough.<br />
<br />
4. Shape the fudge into whatever shape you want, or place in a small cake pan and refrigerate for 30 mins. Store in fridge until ready to serve.<br />
<br />
